A talented speaker brings history alive to make a contemporary point
In this update we analyze excerpts from an advocacy speech—a speech pitching a current events point of view—but one that also engages its audience by making history come alive over a bridge of centuries. The speaker, Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, has a strong opinion—he’s a small-government, anti-tax man. But he also knows his history and is able to transform what could have been a harsh, hectoring editorial into a colorful, engaging “history lesson with an attitude.”
