The power of anecdotes: Instant inspiration for any business, professional or civic presentation
My old boss, Ronald Reagan, used to remind his speechwriters that one good anecdote was worth a thousand statistics. As usual, the Great Communicator knew what he was talking about. A well-chosen anecdote, drawn from real life and told convincingly, is one of the best rhetorical means of teaching a lesson or making a point. Properly used, it can bond your listeners to your message even as it moves or amuses them.
