Its been around for years, and it probably isnt even true. But the old clunker still raises a laugh. We refer to the legendary if not mythical audience survey that, as told by Nevada Congressman Jim Gibbons and reported in National Journal.

For maximum impact, start and finish your talk without notes
Few people can actually memorize an entire speech. Most of us have to rely on some sort of notes or outline. But you should make every attempt to anchor your opening and closing statements firmly in your mind so that you can look directly at your audience while delivering those lines.
