A good toast is to a mediocre speech what a small glass of perfect vintage port is to a full pitcher of beer: lesser in quantity but richer in flavor, color and essence. Like a brilliant miniature painting, a good toast expresses a lot with a few well-chosen brushstrokes and brightens the room it occupies.
