Commemorating the Glorious Fourth
Once a year, on the Glorious Fourth, Americans join together to celebrate our birthday as a nation. And it really is a birthday because, unlike most nations with ancient ethnic or tribal roots, America is a country that invented itself. Many American Speaker readers will be called on to say a few words to mark the occasion.

An Instant Fourth of July speech
Each July 4, we Americans celebrate our independence. This year, which has already witnessed war, sacrifice and ultimate victory in the cause of freedom, the familiar celebration takes on fresh meaning. A new generation of Americans has fought freedoms fight and returned to home and peace with honor.
