Saturday, December 16th: First Day of Hanukkah
Hanukkah is the eight-day-long Jewish Festival of Dedication, also called the Festival of Lights. It commemorates the victory of the ancient Jewish Maccabees over their Syrian oppressors in 167 B.C. a notable triumph in the ages-old Jewish struggle against annihilation and for religious freedom. For many American Jewish families, it has also become a time for exchanging gifts among loved ones.
