1 - On this day in 1948, followers of Mao Tse-Tung founded the Communist North China Peoples Republic, as a base for conquering the rest of mainland China.

1 - On this day in 1903, the opening game of baseballs first World Series took place in Boston. Although the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Boston Pilgrims (later the Red Sox), 7-3, in the opening game, Boston won the series.
